The J. Johnson Education Center offers a comprehensive CNA training program aimed at preparing students for certification in Wisconsin. The program includes 59 hours of classroom instruction, lab practice, and theory, along with 16 hours of clinical experience. Through lectures, videos, and hands-on labs, students learn essential skills such as bathing, dressing, positioning, and monitoring vital signs. The training is designed to equip students with the knowledge and practical abilities needed to provide quality care in hospitals and long-term care facilities.
The program is offered in various sessions throughout the summer and fall of 2024, with multiple start dates and time options to accommodate different schedules. Prospective students must be at least 16 years old, able to read, write, and understand English, and provide documentation such as a valid ID, Social Security Card, negative tuberculosis test results, and proof of a seasonal flu shot (for classes between October and April). Additionally, students must be physically capable of performing the required tasks and free of drug, alcohol, and recent criminal convictions.
The J. Johnson Education Center also offers a CNA+CBRF course that includes additional certifications in Community-Based Residential Facility (CBRF) and CPR training. This program is tailored for those seeking to work in diverse healthcare environments, including assisted living and home care. To register, students must visit the center in person during designated hours. Various funding resources are available to help cover the cost of the courses, including programs like WIOA Youth, W-2/FoodShare, and Silver Spring Neighborhood Center, among others.
